The QR code connects most efficiently to the narrative for Freddies Park.
The Mohawk Towpath Byway is rolling out new signage to improve access to our cell phone based self guided tour. The town of Clifton Park has new signs at the foot of Ferry Drive and at Clutes Dry Dock; Halfmoon has them in Crescent Park and at the historic landing site of Dunsbach Ferry; and the town of Colonie now has them at Freddies Park (pictured at left) and at the old military crossing (below). These signs more efficiently connect to narratives about the specific site including historic significance and how the site fits into the overall visitor experience on the Mohawk Towpath Byway. The two signs pictured here are two of three funded by a grant by the Albany County Convention and Visitors Bureau Fund of the Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region.
Using the self guided tour, anyone can obtain an introduction to the stories along the Byway. The narratives are provided by local officials, historians, or volunteers and linked together tell the story of the Byway much like a tour guide.
It’s not necessary to have a “smart” phone. You can key in the local phone number on any phone including a “land-line” phone as you take an “arm-chair” tour of the Byway in the comfort of your own home in inclement weather.
Try it out! Dial 518-649-9990 and follow the voice prompts. But you have to visit in person to get the whole experience including the fresh air, wild flowers, and warm sun that those who traveled the waterways two centuries ago encountered.
