Historic Tugboat Urger

The tugboat Urger, flagship of the New York State Canal Corporation will be tied up at the Crescent Dock and open to the public on Monday, May 21, 2012, from 1:30 PM to 4 PM.  This is a great opportunity for public to see a beautifully restored 1900s Erie Canal work horse.  So bring the family, friends or a school group, or just stop in to satisfy your own curiosity.  Remember maritime etiquette: ask the Captain’s permission to come aboard.  Since it is a New York State vessel you most likely will be welcome, but asking the Captain or crew will get you special treatment and mutual respect.  If you are at all mechanically inclined you might be treated to an inspection of the engine room.  I can hear my mother say, “My God, you could eat off this deck!”
