The Mohawk Towpath Byway is open at all hours of the day, 7 days a week, 365 (or 366 this year). We have wonderful recreation opportunities within the corridor between Waterford, Cohoes, and Schenectady.
Our top priority is the health and well-being of our families and community so we’re keeping a pulse on the evolving situation to help slow the spread of this virus. Practice social distancing and wash your hands but seek safe ways to get outside. Find a quiet park or path for a walk or run; a trail or preserve for a hike to relieve stress; ride your bike (just not in a group); or for families with kids at home, slow-down by exploring nature and doing fun outdoor activities.

Each of our municipalities has unique parks some small, some steeped in history, some large and open, all are excellent venues for recreation. Get out and enjoy them and the fresh air. I find the best time is in the morning just after sunrise. The birds are already into their mating calls, other creatures are either retiring for the day or foraging for their first food of the day before humanity is up and about.
Lots of activity to observe and I can rejoice in a new day, like a clean slate!
But find what time is best for you and your family. Use it wisely. As you visit the byway please call ahead to pick up your next meal or to make sure your favorite store or convenience is open and has what you need, whether a homemade pie or your favorite clock repair shop. Avoid the highway and embrace the byway.
For Example this from the Vischer Ferry General Store:
For the time being, we will not be making sandwiches and hot food to order. Instead, we’ll be selling individual and family meals, soups, quiches, baked goods and more. We’re doing our best to stock some basic grocery supplies such as milk, orange juice, eggs, bread, flour, sugar, coffee (buy our house blend by the bag!), toilet paper, paper towels, tissues, hand sanitizer, Clorox wipes and cleaning spray. We’ll still be selling cookies, scones and tea cakes, as well as our drinks (coffee, lattes, cold brew, tea, lemonade etc.). Check our Facebook page for the most up-to-date information regarding what’s available! All orders and payment will be taken over the phone, bagged and placed on the porch with your name on it at a designated time for pickup.
