The high point in the Byway’s celebration of our fifth anniversary of being named as one of America’s Byways® was Harvest Days. This birthday party was a collaboration between Riverview Orchards, Shenendehowa Rotary and the Mohawk Towpath Byway. The event included a weekend of family fun starting with hay rides, story telling, and a bonfire on Friday night. Saturday included crafters and vendors, bounce village, dunking booth, games, hay rides, farm animals, ski divers, magician, balloon sculptures, battle of the bands and more entertainment, great food, apple picking, and crowned with spectacular fire works under written by Price Chopper. Sunday morning saw a spectacular sunrise with bagpipers and rooster calls followed by hay rides, apple picking the remainder of the crop, hay maze and other activities. Rotary provided the food, games, and dunking booth as a fund raiser for all of their local and international projects. Southern Saratoga Interact
conducted the Battle-of-the-Bands as a fund raiser to help eradicate Polio.
By all measures the weekend was a great success.
If you missed the fun look for Harvest Days next year, the last weekend in September. We have promised a scavenger hunt on the Byway during the event next year as a way to further the Byway story. Want to help put together this fun event? Contact the Byway by e-mail.
The fireworks on Saturday night were spectacular. It turned out that there was another celebration on the other side of the Mohawk River. Each volley on either side of the river was answered by one on the other side making for a unique display!
